It happened in the setttlement of Nowogrod on 10th / 22nd December 1879 at 10 pm.
He appeared in person, the Jew, Herszek KIKMAN, labourer, age 50 years, a permanent resident of the village of Zbojna, accompanied by the Jews Elba KON,a shames, age 71 and Kuszel CHMIELEWSKI, a labourer, age 72 years, both living in the settlement of Nowogrod, and showed us a child of the male sex announcing that he had been born in the village of Zbojna on 2nd /14th December of this year at 11a.m. of his lawful wife Sura Maria nee KELLER, age 28 years.
This child at the ceremony of circumcision was given the name Chaim Ber.
Then the document, upon being read aloud to the Client and the witnesses, was signed by me alone, because the father of the child and the witnesses declared that they were illiterate.
Illiterate, in this context, means that they could not sign their names in cyrillic script.
