YARZHEIT

YARZHEIT

Yarzheit is a Yiddish word meaning "anniversary". It is the Jewish calendar date on which a person has passed away. It is usual for members of a family to remember parents, siblings or children who have passed away and to recite a memorial prayer, known as Kaddish, on that day.

The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar and varies with the Julian calendar, which is the one used in the Western world, every year. Consequently the Yarzheit for person will fall on a different date each year. If you wish to remember someone on their Yarzheit the date is shown under their personal details page under "notes". There are several internet sites that will convert that date to the current date.

If the Yarzheit date is missing from this web site please contact me.
