Notes |
- The 1911 Census for England and Wales showed Annie living with her husband and children at 13 Mount Street, Whitechapel. A copy of the 1911 Census for England and Wales is under Annie BERMAN in Documents in the Media drop down menu above.
.
- At a "cousin's party" on 3 Sept 2005 Johnathan SCHOFIELD said that he was told that Annie said that her parents were murdered and that she hid in a farm whilst everything around her was burnt.
Michael TOBIN said that Annie was 14 and her sister was 16 when they went to USA. Her sister was allowed to remain but she was turned away with an eye defect.
Morrie's birth certificate (1 Mar 1907) gives her maiden name as BERMAN
Mick's birth certificate (13 Mar1909) gives her maiden name as BARRON
Bessie's birth certificate (15 Mar 1911) gives her maiden name as BERMAN
Sid's birth certicate (22 Dec 1912) gives her maiden name as BERMAN.
Gershon's birth certificate (18 May 1918) has " mark of Annie BAIREN " therefore she probably was unable to sign name
Alf's birth certificate (26 Oct 1921) has " mark of Annie TOBOVITCH " formerly BILLMAN therefore she probably was unable to sign name
Myer's birth certificate gave name as BERON
Jeannie SCHOFIELD said on 3 November 2003 :-
a) After Harris died Annie worked as a cook for a caterer who specialised in Jewish weddings in the East End.
b) Annie worked as a cleaner and cook for Louis SIMONS before marrying him.
c) Whilst she was married to Louis his son aged c. 40 lived with them. After Louis died she could not stand the son so she left and went to live with Sadie and Gershon.
.
- In June 2013 Vashti and Rachel BERMAN said the Bessie TOBOVITCH worked for Philip DOBKIN in South London.
.
- In August 2013 Jacqui and I met Rachel and Vashti BERMAN together with Paul BERMAN and Sari from America. Sari was the daughter of Morris BERMAN who was the son of Abraham BERMAN. I have no doubt that the family name was BERMAN.
.
Name:
- Annies Hebrew name was : Chana bat Mendel
Alexander Beider in his "Dictionary of Ashkenazic Given Names states ( I paraphrase) :-
Annie is an Anglicisation of the Jewish name Khane who was the mother of Samuel in the bible and means gracious in English.
The German transcription of Khane or Chana was Hanna or Chana and the pet name was Anna or in England Annie .
- Following the discovery of Annie's birthplace in 1921 Census the probability is that her maiden name was BARON which was common in Vilkomir according to Alexander Beider in his book A Dictionary of Jewish Surnames from the Russian Empire.
- Jacqui ZERDIN said that her grandmother was known as "Bobba Chaykie" In August 2013 Vashti BERMAN referred to Annie as Chaya.
- Annie's cousins are known as Berman.
Died:
- Cause of death: 1a. coronary thrombosis b. left ventrical failure

- [S3] Marriage Certificate, Registration district Stoke Newington in the County of London no.123 (Reliability: 3).
On 26 May 1950 at the Finsbury Park District Synagogue the marriage was solemnised between Lewis SIMONS, age 70, widower, gentleman's outfitter, of 193 Seven Sisters Road N.4 son of Moses SIMONS deceased and Russell TAUBOVITCH otherwise TOBOVITCH, widow, age 60, of 180 High Road, N15 daughter of Jacob TAUBOVITCH deceased.
Jacob TAUBOVITCH/TOBOVITCH was Annie's husband's father.
Annie only marked the marriage certificate with an X. This indicates that she still could not sign her name in English.
