  • Notes
    • In 1844 Cyma's father's death certificate states that she was living in Debniki

    Born:
    • Marlene Silverman, the editor of Landesmen pointed out in a letter received 4 August 2001 that Cyma was a member of my KIKMAN family. Her parents were named as Szlamy Herszkowicz (Solomon son of Hirsh) from Wyk and Jdki Pinchesowney from Wyk.

It appears that Cyma had at least two daughters.

    2. [S2] Birth certificate, Registration district Nowogrod record no. B36/1818 Wyk (Reliability: 3), 22 Jun 1818.
On 22nd June, 1818, at noon. In front of us, the priest of the Nowogrod parish and nominated clerk of the civil administration of Nowogrod community, Lomza county, Augustow Vojvodstvo, it appeared in person the Jew Szlama Herszkowicz, 21 years old, resident of the village Wyk, and showed us a child of a female gender announcing that she had been born in village Wyk on June 19th, this year, at 1 p.m., in the house No 20, of his lawful wife Idka Pinchesowna, 20 years old.
His wish was to give her the name Cyma.
After this declaration in the presence of Michel Zelkowicz, age 60, inn-keeper from Kuzie village, and Majer Sulimowicz, age 42, tailor residing in Nowogrod. The father of the child is illiterate.
Then this document was read aloud and signed by us and both witnesses.

This seems to be the oldest record of the Kikman family. Jewish records from Nowogrod just started in 1818. They are among Christian records of Nowogrod parish, as the priest was also the clerk of the civil administration (no Jewish birth records in 1815-1816). The surname Kikman does not appear in this document. The process of giving surnames to the Jews started about 1825-26. Before, Jewish citizens were named in patronymics only. Szlama Kikman is named here Szlama Herszkowicz, means son of Herszko. 1818 was the year when Jews from Nowogrod registered all births records of their children born before 1818. Szlama Kikman did not register any child except Cyma in 1818. Maybe Cyma was his first child. The marriage record (before 1818) is not available in Nowogrod. Most probably they got married somewhere else, maybe a place where Etka (Idka) Pinkasowna was from. This was actually very common. - Andrzej).

    3. [S3] Marriage Certificate, Registration district Nowogrod M1/1836 Dembniki and Wyk (Reliability: 2), 21 Jun 1836.
It happened in the town of Nowogrod on 21st June 1836 at 2 p.m.
It is announced that in the presence of the witnesses, the Jews, Judka POTASIEWICZ, tailor, age 30, and Abram POTASIEWICZ, also tailor, aged 50, residents of the village of Zbojna, that today a religious marriage had been concluded between the Jews Leyba Szolimowicz LIBKIEWICZ, bachelor, born in the village of Cielosec in the disatrict of Kolno, as a son of the Jew Szolim and Leja BERKOWNA married Chaimowicz LIBKIEWICZ, resident of the village Dembniki, tailor by profession, 22 years old, and the maiden Cyma Szlamowna, daughter of the Jews Szlama and Idka Pinkasowna family HERSZKOWICZ, born in the village of Wyk and still living there with her parents, 18 years old.
The marriage was preceeded by three announcements published on 5th, 11th and 18th June this year, in the Nowogrod Synagogue. The verbal permission for the marriage was given by both parents of the newly-weds, who attended the ceromony. No reservations had been registered. The newly-weds announced that they did not conclude any marriage agreement. Then the documenet, upon being read aloud to the clients, but not signed by them because they were illiterate.
Obtained and translated by Andrzej Seler in September 2009.

Previously on my database I had that Szolim CHAIMOWICZ married Leia BERKOWNA.

On my database Judka POTASIEWICZ married Jeta SZOLIMOWNA. They had a son Herzka POTASIEWICZ who married Chawa KIKMAN who was Cyma KAUFMAN's sister.
