Notes |
- Zena says :-
Sally always corrected people if they called him Solly and Zena was embarrassed having a father called Sally. The Yiddish name Tzalle, which is what I am sure was Solly's Jewish name in Germany, it is derived from the bible and is the truncated version of the name of the man who built the Ark for the Torah.
He was the youngest of five children. His sister and her daughter killed by nazi's in WWII
His siblings dispersed to USA and England
When Solly joined the Federation of Synagogues Burial Society in 1947 he gave his age as 31 years. He was infact 42 years old. It was common practice for the age of people joining the burial society to be understated as the subscription was age related.
- According to records at the International Tracing Service of the Red Cross in Bad Arolsen,Germany, Sally wasarrested on 12 November 1938 and sent to Dachau. His prisoner number was 23 684. He was released on 9 February 1939
