Notes |
- Yarzheit:
- Occupations: Original occupation was a cabinet maker. In 2004 his cousin, Millie white, stated that her daughter still used a bookcase made by Max. Subsequently he became a taxi cab driver. One of my earliest recollections in life was when the lights went on after WWII. I recall being woken up from my sleep and carried down to Max's cab, which was a cabriolet, and with the hood down we drove to Oxford Street where we stood outside the HMV record shop and saw the lights turned on. Eventually the desiel fumes were too much for him and he became a market trader in carpets and linoleum. This he did for many years but he always maintained his licence to drive a taxi. When he became too old to load and unload the carpets he returned to driving a taxi on a part-time basis. Unfortunately over the years he had forgotten his knowledge of London which resulted in him taking people to the wrong place. The countless stories were very funny but there was also a pathos attached to them
