Notes |
Name:
- It is this generation of Jewish people that were forced, by the Russian authorities, to take surnames. For reasons that are not clear the children of Szlama and Itka chose either the name KIKMAN or the name KAUFMAN.
- Szloma Herszkowicz's death cerificate gives his surname KAUFMAN
Born:
- death certificate gave age as 47 years in 1844.
Name:
- In a later translation Andzej Seler stated that this could mean that he was named after his mother because the marriage was not formally registered with the authorities. The children were treated as illigitimate and took the mothers name. Later when the marriage was formally registered they could revert to the fathers name. Some did revert. Some stayed Kaufman
